Man Confesses to Murder and Robbery on Adams Express Train

Charles R. H. Ferrell, a 21 year old former Adams Express employee, admits killing Express Messenger Charles Lane on a Pennsylvania train No. 8 between St. Louis and Columbus and robbing the way safe. He says motive was to fund marriage to Miss Lillian Costlow. money recovered and given to her for safekeeping. Ferrell identified by City Detectives ONeil Dundon and Chief Kelly after hotel tip and intercepted express package.

Train Struck Omnibus Killing Fifteen in Slatington Area

A passenger train on the Lehigh & New England railroad crashed into a funeral omnibus carrying twenty five people near Slatington Pennsylvania. Fifteen people were killed instantly and eleven were seriously injured with several others may die. The accident followed a sharp curve and occurred as the omnibus attempted to cross the track.

East Boston Woman Slays Self After Child Birth

Mrs Mary N Grundy 38 of 300 Princeton Street East Boston killed herself by severing her jugular vein with a razor about 11 pm. Four days after giving birth to a baby, she had suffered sleeplessness and opiate dependency. Husband found her seated in a bloodied chair with the razor. Doctor deemed temporary insanity as the cause.

French Fleet Collision Sinks Torpedo Boat Destroyer Framee

Off Cape St Vincent during fleet maneuvers the first class battleship Berennus collided with the torpedo boat destroyer Framee. Framee sank. four officers and fifty eight men saved. At least fifty feared dead. France class battleship 818 tons displacement referenced.

Filipinos Surrender Near Tayug in Philippines

Washington reports a Manila despatch from General MacArthur stating that near Tayug the Filipino force surrendered to Colonel Freeman of the Twenty-fourth United States Infantry. The surrender included one major, six captains, six lieutenants, 169 men, 101 rifles and 50 bolos. The date is August 12.

Train Wreck Near Iowa Station Kills and Injures

Reports say several people were killed and forty injured when a west bound Southern Pacific fast passenger train derailed four miles east of Lake Charles at Iowa station. The engine left the track and the cars were ditched. no telegraph office at Iowa delayed details. Dead and injured to be brought to Lake Charles via the Kansas City Watkins Gulf line crossing nearby.

Royalty In Collision Near Rome Attends Funeral

A train carrying many notables returning from funerals in Rome collided with another train miles outside the city. Six people were killed and several others fatally injured. The King and Queen visited the wreck, with Grand Duke and Grand Duchess Pierre of Russia reported safe.

Four Die As Coal Train Deraills At Deep Run West Virginia

Four men are killed when a southbound coal train derailed over a steep embankment at Deep Run four miles above Wheeling on the Wheeling and Lake Erie line. Engineer Mike McGreavy of Norwalk died from a fractured skull after leaping to the ground. An unidentified man aboard the train also died. Fireman G B Turner of Steubenville and Isré Wolfe of Steubenville were killed.
