He will divide jobs in solid states between Democrats and Republicans while in the South he favors Republican picks in debatable states. Virginia is viewed as offering an opportunity for a strong Republican showing next November.
Alvin Niles, a middle aged man with an injured left arm, was found in Ludlow woods with his arm hacked below the elbow. He later admitted self amputation after claiming his severed limb ruined job prospects. a hatchet and severed arm portion were found at a fence post. He was hospitalized with uncertain recovery prospects.
The 35 foot yacht Hobe from Orient Heights Yacht Club ran aground last night in the lower harbor near Nix's Mate with 25 aboard. Captain P H Wyatt of Winthrop Yacht Club commanded a launch that rescued the women and later a second launch evacuated the men. the vessel remained aground as of last accounts.

Adelia Newhouse of South Boston was rescued off City Point as eight people died in a single weekend across New England. Two perished in the Charles River, others in lakes and ponds. At Bryant's Pond Maine a capsized canoe killed two, while a brother swam ashore. One victim had just been elected Waldoboro bank cashier. At Brookside Lake Great Barrington David Fay Whitcomb drowned after dragging two companions down three times before sinking.
David Faye Whitcomb a post office clerk drowned while attempting to swim across Brookside Lake on the Walker estate in Great Barrington. He was with Harry Burghardt and four boys when exhaustion set in near the far shore. both men and one boy tried to assist before Whitcomb went under in 25 feet of water.

Samuel Francis Smith son of the author of America dies in a Toronto hospital after being taken from a train bound for Newton Centre Mass to rejoin his wife and daughter. He had been pardoned by Governor Carroll from Anamosa State Reformatory after serving five of eleven years for embezzling trust funds in Davenport.
Samuel Francis Smith once led Davenport as mayor and served as lawyer banker and church worker. Whispers turned to charges after a probe found he defaulted 100000 dollars of funds entrusted to him. He confessed without mercy and his wife sold the Davenport mansion to move to Massachusetts.
Morris Bronstein real estate contractor from Roxbury and his four year old son are dying at Framingham Hospital after a trolley car collided with their buggy en route to Hopkinton. Mrs. Grossman of Roxbury and eight Bronstein party members were in two carriages. four others were treated elsewhere. The wreck tore the Bronstein buggy apart and left the child trapped beneath the vehicle. The car was driven by Conductor Edward Cook and Motorman Edward Larkin.
George Van Dyke of Lancaster New Hampshire and his chauffeur Frederick Hodgdon died when their car plunged from a 75 foot rock bank into the Connecticut River. Stanley Taylor of Worcester was killed in a separate joy ride crash in a stolen car. Kali Ikelainen of Fitchburg is dying from injuries in another city accident.
Tokio reports Japan has received instructions from Pekin withdrawing all objections to the reconstruction begun yesterday of the An tung and Mukden railroad as a standard gauge line. The move follows Beijing’s reported consent to the project.
