Capt I H Dodd of the schooner E G Irwin arrived from New England was arrested in Richmond on a charge of attempted violation of neutrality laws. The vessel was seized and placed in charge of a deputy U S marshal for carrying suspicious war material including rifles pistols cartridges ammunition and two cannon with wheels and axles new. Dodd was bailed.
Arrangements have been made for next week's races at Rochester driving park with 9000 dollars in total prize money. Wednesday features 2000 dollars for Phallus and Trinket, Thursday offers 5000 dollars for Witherspoon Edward Thorne and St. Julien, and 22000 dollars for Jay Eye Lee to beat his best record.

At Saratoga on August 8 the first race over three quarters saw Freeland win ahead of Callao and Vera with a time of 1 16. The second race featured two heats over one and one eighth miles with Canpias Ida B Nettie and Capias Nettie Bell all placing in the heats and times around 1 59 and 1 5644. Nora M won the five furlongs third race with Rena B second and Fairview third in 1 08. The fourth race over one and one quarter miles with five hurdles was taken by Guy with Miss Moulsey second and Bell Bird third in 2 23.
Paddy Ryan plans a Chicago Daily News card tomorrow where his backer Parson Davies says a Boston ball cannot secure the proposed bout with John L. Sullivan before next January. Cincinnati dispatch reports Assistant Superintendent Kinsman says only eight of 990 Wabash operators on 3600 miles have obeyed the Brotherhood strike order. Four at Decatur and four at Chicago. Brotherhood members claim larger regional sympathy and potential walkouts among Iron Mountain and East St. Louis operators. In Dakota, 256 strikers mobbed the Bismarck telegraph office forcing the new man to quit. manager Draper moved the office to the Tribune building.
