Decadents and Symbolists Exponents of Eternal Truth
In Giverny July 24 1891 analysis of the Decadents and Symbolists argues Decadents faded after a brief reformist burst while Symbolists rose to influence. It notes their disputes with critics, the wider French appetite for esoteric ideas, and Verlaine as a key adherent whose religious verse contrasts with scandal. The piece previews further discussion of Symbolist methods and their implications for art and literature.
