Freighter Kasama Rescued After Grounding Off Lovell's Island
Kasama left Calcutta June 13 on a 53 day voyage with 70 crew and 7000 tons of cargo valued at over 800000 dollars. The ship ran aground on a sandbar near Lovell's Island as steering jammed, after two days in seas and a heat wave. Seven tugs and the vessel's own propellers freed the freighter after nearly ten hours, then it proceeded to East Boston's Eastern Railway Company dock.
