Mayor Parsons presented serious charges about City Marshal Tarr at the aldermen meeting in Gloucester Massachusetts. He nominated Capt. Eli O. Cleaves as successor, but the nomination was tabled unanimously. The board agreed to grant Tarr's request for a public investigation.
In Toronto today the United States team batted first and were bowled out for 43, the lowest first class score by a US side. Canada posted 87 in reply, then began a second innings with three wickets down for 14 as the match progressed.
Warren A. Black man of Lowell aged 56 died by suicide in Chelmsford by taking laudanum. He was a painter by trade.

NW Aug 4 The democrats swept the city carrying every ward and electing every city officer. Mayor-elect Eldredge has 601 majority. Republicans concede little but the race is a straight party contest. Democrats claim a political revolution in the state despite past GOP control.
A new joint stock manufacturing company with a paid up capital of 80000 was organized at Rochester for the manufacture of steel and iron cutting machines a new invention. Officers include President John Page and Treasurer Charles Blaze directors Ches E Manson John D Fogg Isaac Drivers James Walker John J Hoey A E Herson Nat Wimpfheimer. In Dover police court Robert Markell was arraigned for assault with a clasp knife on Officer Caverly during arrest struggle and was committed to county jail in default of bonds for trial in the supreme court.
Morristown N J Aug 4 The Dover accommodation train going west struck a carriage at the Chat ham and Summit crossing. Mrs Edward J Brown Miss Mary Brown and an infant child of Mrs Irving Brown were killed instantly. The infant's nurse suffered a crushed skull and was likely fatally injured with other injuries in the wreck.

Possible arrests expected as threats are under review.
In San Francisco a divorce hearing in Sharon Hill case ended with Miss Hill drawing a revolver from her satchel and pointing it at ex Senator Stewart after contentious remarks. Master Knighton wrestled the weapon from her as the hearing adjourned until today. She warned she would kill Stewart before the trial ends and a warrant was sought for her arrest.
Special Despatch notes a strong grain market with wheat seeing gains due to a larger visible supply and English crop concerns, while provisions weaken overall. New York buyers supported grain, with close up fractions of a cent and mixed receipts for tomorrow, including 63 cars wheat 220 cars corn and 63 cars oats.
The fourth annual Universalist grove gathering begins in the Methodist grove tomorrow and runs through Sunday. The program includes a morning excursion of Sunday school scholars across Lake Winnipesaukee and a 2:30 Sunday school concert.
Washington August 4 The President will leave Friday for at least four weeks and will not be disturbed by office seekers. Mail to the White House will be limited to personal matters. The crowd around the mansion is sparse as preparations and packing continue.

A grease rendering office on Newton street and a Merrill overseen fire caused no major loss.
