In Manchester New Hampshire William D. Ashcraft a 71 year old farmer and Rosie Desselle 24 filed marriage intentions. Desselle faces opposition from her parents who will try to block the marriage. The romance began in June when Desselle visited at the home of her sister in Pittsfield near Ashcrafts farm and the two met while the Dav is family bought produce from him.
Two hundred thousand people attended the second and final day of the dedication celebration for Springfield's new 6 million bridge over the Connecticut River, with over 75,000 visitors from outside the city.
Samuel W. Comstock, a Boston lumber dealer, received a telegraph request for $15 to be sent to him in Albany after thieves stole his money and letters in his hotel. His wife in Boston also received a telegram asking for $10 to cover the supposed crisis. The ruse was that the thieves used his letters to conjure a supposed emergency. The Comstocks reside at 4 Farrington Avenue, Allston.
In Washington on August 3 a fire horse named Jack Gallup killed himself in front of a fire house after ten years of service and a demoted fate hauling a garbage wagon. His fellow firefighters say the act was deliberate.
The strike situation in Greater Boston and New England remained practically unchanged yesterday. Striker leadership dismissed reports of a large return to work as false, insisting that ranks remain solid across the rail service.

A beloved Washington firehouse horse named Jack and two companions retired after years of service. In a hot, grim task in Georgetown a final dump in a dirty garbage wagon led Jack to crash into a brick wall and die, a mercy killing by grieving firefighters who recognized him by his branded hooves.
National army troops landed from the sea today in Ireland as insurgent positions along the coast were threatened. The operation was reported from Dublin with additional details continuing on page 9 Fourth column.

A 20-foot open motor boat with John Scott and his two sons Butler 15 and Joseph Yout 14 from Rock Island Road went fishing near Boston Light. Relatives fear fog may have caused them to become lost and drift at sea or be run down, as they had not been heard from by nightfall.

In Seabright California staked results show Johnston defeated Kinsey and Williams beat Hunter in semi finals. At Narragansett Pier Myopia beat Point Judith 11 to 6 and Philadelphia beat Dedham 9 to 7.
