The Winifredian's Captain George W Muir of the Leyland line
Captain George W Muir of the Leyland line is celebrated for a 1888 rescue in a fierce Massachusetts Bay storm. As Bavarian battled waves to save the sinking schooner Eddies Pierce, Muir directed the lifeboat and helped all but one crew member reach safety. Ball received honors and Muir rose through Leyland's ranks to command ships in the Boston service.
