The Rev. Cortland Myers at Tremont Temple derided patriotic home gardeners and warned Massachusetts that God would damn the state if gardens are tended on Sundays. He urged workers to serve country in wartime and condemned wealth inequality fueling the war effort.
Three thousand five hundred men and women packed Tremont Temple for the largest prohibition demonstration in the state. Speakers urged a nationwide war prohibition with no half measures and called on the President to act.
A fire aboard the German liner at the Federal wharf in East Boston started in the after hold last night. Firemen arrived quickly and confined the blaze to the rear of the ship, extinguishing it in about 30 minutes. Damages were estimated at 300 dollars.
The Rev. Charles B. Beals pastor of the Church of the Unity in Worcester resigns after parishioners insisted on raising an American flag in the choir loft. An ex militiaman and pacifist, Beals gave an ultimatum two weeks ago and the flag was raised today with no services. His resignation takes effect June 29.

He spoke before the Waiters' Union on Washington Street, asserting their appearance on Irish soil would have a strong moral impact.

British forces pressed with intrepidity against German defenders. King George's men fought hard and drove the opposing force from the position, securing entry.
American aviators Willis Haviland of Minneapolis and Charles C. Johnson of St. Louis, under Lt. William Thaw, fought German planes near Paris. Haviland forced a foe to 4000 feet and downed it, while Johnson forced another to withdraw. Several Germans fled.
