Opening of New England League Sparks Local Debate
The St Louis correspondent to the Sporting News calls St Louis a baseball cemetery as the New England League season opens. He notes comparisons to fallen stars Arlie Latham and Charley Comiskey and cites Sockalexis as a reminder of Joe Hornung’s prime throws. Cleveland’s poor showing is blamed on conditioning as the team relies on veterans. Crank-Lowe of Boston is named, and Charley Farrell’s early career is traced back to Marlboro before his Senators tenure.
