Washington reports rising talk Harrison will be renominated by acclamation with Blaine’s possible withdrawal shaping the race. Blaine’s hesitation and Elkins remarks fuel a party shift, as Quay Clarkson and other leaders back Harrison while fearing Blaine’s wave and possible cabinet ouster.
In Washington on April 23 a new Washington Club has opened in the Hotel Richmond. modeled on men’s clubs, it aims for strict admission rules with a board of governors and a 15 member roster. New York April 28 The Ninth National Bank faced a defalcation of about 400000 by its late president John T Hill who died March 1 at 55 The bank remains solvent with capital unimpaired Real estate valued at 300000 is restored and pledged to cover the loss Directors say assets are sound and deposits protected The Clearing House committee confirms unimpaired capital and urges depositor confidence The bank began in 1864 with 1 million capital reduced to 700000 four years ago
In San Francisco the morning fog clears to reveal a festive bay as 10,000 gather to accompany President Harrison. The cruiser Charleston and steamer Pueblo lead a decorated flotilla along the city frontage, firing a cannon salute and drawing cheers from the crowd. The voyage proceeds past Fort Point and whistling buoy, with further salutes as forts are viewed.

Four persons were killed and several injured when the Cincinnati express collided with a freight train near Gaithersburg on the Baltimore & Ohio Metropolitan branch. Engineers Curtis Elliot and Henry Groff, fireman Murphy, and postal clerk 5. G. Burdett died. Postal clerk Peacock and express fireman M. G. Miller were seriously hurt. No passengers were seriously harmed. The forward cars of the express overturned and a postal car, baggage car, and one coach burned.
Funeral services for Field Marshal Count von Moltke were held in the general staff building with Emperor William and German royal families in attendance. The ceremony lasted forty five minutes as the casket was moved to a black draped railcar followed by generals and officials.

Providence April 28. A planned family conference at the Barnaby residence with Dr. Graves failed due to a misunderstanding. Graves arrived at 11 o clock and could not gain entry at the front door. he later left town. The family declined to comment and funeral plans are to be kept secret.
Bertha Everett daughter of T R Everett of Phillipsburg was found dead in the Parker House Boston after leaving for Haverhill to live with a sister. Her father escorted her to Tyrone where two men promised to ensure she reached Boston safely. A dispatch announced her death late last night amid speculation she was foully treated rather than taking her own life.
In Burrs Mont on April 28 rumors claim the Anaconda mines were sold for 265 million dollars to a syndicate led by the Rothschilds. William Keyser, president of Baltimore Copper, is said to sail from New York on May 6 to oversee the transfer.

Budapest April 28 The Royal Court ruled that a marriage performed in the United States is not recognized by Hungary. The case involved Johann Sstegena who married a Hungarian woman after already marrying Marie Rovnak in New York. He was declared innocent of bigamy. the charge by his current wife here was dropped.
London report says Grand Trunk directors were reelected by a large majority at a well attended meeting in MontreAl on April 23. Shareholders accused the election of unfair conduct, denouncing Sir Henry Tyler and the road policy amid violent speeches. Strong opposition seeks thorough management reform with many shareholders backing the movement. Sir Charles Tupper was absent.
