In Quincy last night Albert Spargo shot and killed his wife Elizabeth Spargo and then killed himself. After 15 years of marked jealousy he had recently reconciled, but renewed disputes led to the fatal act at their Franklin street home.
Andrew Carnegie announces a 10 million dollar endowment to found The Carnegie Foundation to provide retiring pensions for college and university teachers in the US Canada and Newfoundland. The trustees will organize the foundation, set pension rules, and study needs while data is gathered from institutions. The gift secures pensions and aims to raise teaching standards nationwide.
Archbishop Williams marked his 83rd birthday with well wishes from clergy and parishioners at the archiepiscopal residence. He maintained his routine of Mass and diocese duties while receiving floral tributes and attention from cathedral congregants. He is near 60 years since his ordination to the priesthood.

Police say the accident remains a mystery and suspect vehicle involvement or criminal negligence.
Fireman Crowley of Engine 3 Northampton Street reacted quickly to an alarm from Box 98. He drove from the station and, in a near miss, the engine pole struck a Grove Hall car, causing panic and a passenger to faint. Crowley steered away, saving the car and himself. several windows were broken and the engine sustained damage.

In Lowell on April 27 a sixth dog attack in two months ends with 300 canines shot by police. Four year old Mary Cassidy, daughter of Patrick Cassidy, was bitten on Adams Street near Cross Street. She was taken to Dr. Laughlin with Dr. Sherman, then sent to New York City for Pasteur Institute care. The attacking dog, said to belong to Cox, is contained and likely to be shot.
Chicago on April 27 faced a massive 38500 strong strike by teamsters with a firm open shop stance from the Employers' Association. Rioting injured three as guards and detectives protect wagons. Notable firms report large walkouts including Marshall Field, Montgomery Ward, Farwell, Wells Fargo, American Express, Adams, and others.
