Details of Booth Capture At Bowling Green And Garretts
The 16th New York cavalry learned Booth was near Bowling Green after an old man reported four men with a rebel captain heading from the Rappahannock. Booth and Harrold were at the Garretts farm three miles back toward Port Royal after seeking horses to escape to Louisa Court House. Booth was fatally shot by Sergeant Corbett as the barn burned, while the Garretts were taken into custody. An autopsy confirmed clothing faded to resemble Confederate grey.
