Finishing blow at Blakely seals capture of 3000 prisoners
Correspondence from Stark's Landing, Montte Bay, April 13 reports Gen Granger advancing to Mobile and entering the city with three regiments after the Blakely assault on the 9th. Federals breached two miles of works, took 1300 prisoners in Andrews’s assault, six hundred yards of rifle pits and detachment defenses, with 33 killed and 201 wounded among Andrews’s men. The main force suffered heavy losses. a large rebel force evacuated Mobile, and public property was destroyed.
