Washington voices approval of resolving the difficulty through mediation by South American republics. Reports reach of Americans seized and jailed while en route to Vera Cruz. A British admiral rescues refugees by signaling with a British flag on a train and entering Mexican territory. Monterey falls to rebel forces.
Huerta has accepted Brazil Argentina and Chile mediation to settle the US Mexico crisis. The Spanish ambassador cites private Mexican advices showing Huerta aims for an amicable settlement with good offices from the three republics. President Wilson welcomed the move and mediation may avert further bloodshed, with Carranza Villa and the Constitutionalists still to be considered.
A mob captured thirty Americans from a train at Encarnacion and threatened executions. Huerta troops intervened at Monterey to free the group and return them to custody. a U. S. consul reported the incidents and arrests.

Forecast for southern New England calls for cloudy conditions on Monday with rain in the eastern portion and Tuesday bringing partly cloudy skies and warmer temperatures. Northern New England may see rain or snow in the south and rain with fresh shifting winds in the north, strong on the east Maine coast, with Tuesday generally fair and slightly warmer.
