Company statement on missing crew after ship accident

The company said three men on board were missing and feared lost. It was unclear if they were trapped below decks as the ship sank or drowned after jumping overboard. A general alarm sounded as the vessel risked foundering.

Vessel St Paul Capsizes at Pier During War Zone Work

Early reports state many crew escaped to the exposed deck or leaped into the water as the St Paul capsized in the dry dock area. Investigators from navy, federal authorities, and the company will determine causes after a full inquiry. Some theories cite water entering coal ports as the hull listed, or open sea-cocks. Government tugs and soldiers secured the scene, with several injuries and some men trapped requiring cutting holes to free them. The ship, now overturned in about 40 feet of water, shows damaged masts, funnels, and interior fittings, with salvage costs paramount.
