A 150 person clash erupted at the Cochrane Chemical Works Everett with both strikers and strikebreakers fighting at the entrance. One man, Samuel Ferris of 39 Ferris Street Boston, was arrested for carrying a loaded revolver at the Everett police station.
Police from the Everett station rushed to quell a growing mob at a strike scene. Three strike-brokers were badly beaten, one knocked from a horse by bricks. A man armed with a revolver threatened the crowd until officers intervened. Fred Horner, union president, said workers would stay out until wages reach a living level, noting only a five cent raise in 20 years for the $1.80 group.
Dispatches from New York report the sale of the Fore River Shipbuilding Company of Quincy to Bethlehem Steel Company. The purchase is seen as a major booster for Quincy and nearby towns, with plans to enlarge the yard and install a drydock for the largest warships, aiming to provide the Atlantic coast with a premier shipyard for government contracts.
At Fore River yards 23 vessels are under construction with contracts exceeding 10 million dollars. Bethlehem Steel, led by Charles M. Schwab, plans to pursue government contracts. Former Rear Admiral Francis T. Bowles declined to confirm details when asked about the sale. Old Colony Trust Company of Boston is the largest stockholder in Fore River Shipbuilding.
General Manager George M. Cox announced that the Middlesex and Boston Railway will reinstate union workers who quit last Tuesday. The directors handed the matter to Cox who said employees must return Monday morning, April 28, and stressed the action is not a precedent for the future.
Captain Loring C. Rice of Steuben, master of the coasting schooner Kate N. Pray, collapsed and died at the wheel in Portland while guiding the vessel to its dock. Heart disease was the cause of death. He was 66 years old and had been bringing a cargo of pulp wood from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

Mrs. Mabel Rogers was granted a divorce from Clyde L. Rogers a prominent patent lawyer with Tremont offices and a Newbury Street Back Bay home by Judge Pierce in the Superior Court yesterday.
The wife, married December 30, 1903 at Woodstock, Canada, testified to cruel and abusive treatment and a failure by her husband to provide support. She left him months ago and asked for alimony. Judge Pierce granted a decree nisi and reserved the amount.
Gail Borden of New York offers a five thousand dollar reward as a last resort to find Ramona Borden age eighteen who has been missing. Detectives traced her and two women to a New Haven hotel and she was located in a Boston private home late last night.
In Antwerp on April 2 a 18 year old youth and a 19 year old girl, arm in arm, climbed the Notre Dame Cathedral clock tower and leaped from 180 feet, dying after shattering every bone. Witnesses fainted as the fall occurred. Police say the act followed a death by own action pact.
Chief Accountant David E. Brown described at the ICC hearing how the New Haven railroad allegedly shifted cash by selling a large bond block to a subsidiary and four days later repurchasing it with stock, creating a paper profit of 7 million dollars. He cited another stock transfer where New England Navigation sold New Haven stock below market price to the same subsidiary and later sold it back for a net 16 million profit, charged to the premium, not the profit and loss account.
Chief Accountant J. M. Tomlinson states the first transaction aims to compensate the New Haven for equipment sold by the New England Navigation Company at a book value well above its actual value. Further details continue on Page 4 Third Column.
