A late evening fire gutted a barn and rear shed at 23 Burrell Street Roxbury driving 11 people from their homes in scant clothing. Residents include Jeremiah Connolly and John J Burn families. Firemen prevented spread to nearby pig houses. cause undetermined. Mrs Bridget McKeever, 100, was rescued from a bed by Jeremiah Connolly Jr.

London April 24 Central News despatch from Genoa reports unofficial learning that Soviet representatives are negotiating a secret treaty with Hungary. The agreement would give mutual support against Romania and the little Entente.
The Central News despatch reports a treaty recognizing the Russo German pact and creating a bloc isolating Poland and Rumania. It says Russia will acknowledge Hungarian frontier rights and Hungary will back Russia in Bessarabia, with air service plans between Hungary, Russia and Germany. Premier Bethlen left for Budapest. no communication to the economic conference yet. Bolshevik and Balkan State representatives are noted as active.
