Market Slump Follows Foreign Tensions on April 24
New York trading halted as the market fell from heavy selling and erratic prices. Bethlehem Steel cut its extra dividend and Greene-Cananea disbursements were suspended, cooling bullish fever. United States Steel acted as a market anchor early then declined with the list after Washington’s steel conference closed without action. Strongest gains appeared in low priced rails and a few industrials, but most advances were erased by closing offers. Total sales reached 1,250,000 shares with par value at $13,150,600.
