Man Crushed by Iron Girder in Brookline Accident

Joseph B. Doyle aged 29 of 2 Cameron Street Brookline was crushed under an iron girder that fell from a wagon while unloading at the old Library site on Boylston Street. He was taken to City Hospital after amputation of both legs. Medical staff described recovery chances as good. Police then took charge of Doyle.

Hart Refuses Second Hearing for Colored Veteran Messenger

Isaiah D. Barnett, a colored veteran, appeals to Mayor Hart after a prior denial of a second hearing on his discharge by Superintendent Wheeler from the sewer division. Barnett publishes a second letter attacking Wheeler and Hart, alleging false statements, political motivation, and improper removal under a written order. He claims the veteran preference act was ignored and cites records from the case to support his charges.

Six Men Arrested in Charlestown Robbery Case

Six men were arrested by Patrolman Dobbin and Special Officer Mullen in Charlestown and jailed at Station 15. Five face robbery charges and one faces receiving stolen property. The suspects include John Murry Edna Sutton W M Langley Joseph Mahoney and Dennis O Hare with Henry Wan beck linked to the recovered property. The stolen watch and chain valued at 60 dollars belonged to Michael Doyle of 2 Princeton Street. Doyle, a former North End bartender aged over fifty, was knocked down during the assault on Medford Street. Arraignments are set for this morning.
