Rebels Dead in Philippines Fight. Bell Dispatches Reinforcements

Reports from Nueva Caceres in South Camarines detailing an April 16 battle where about eighty Filipino fighters were killed as American outposts and detachments from the Forty fifth Regiment repelled bolo armed insurgents. Manila telegraph notes further clashes in Albay with fifty three insurgents slain. General Otis plans movement toward the insurgent leader in early May with a possible Hong Kong voyage.

Captain Atkins Dies by Self Inflicted Gunshot Wound

CHATHAM April 2 Captain Joseph Co Atkin committed death by own action today by shooting. For three years past he had been engaged as a merchant here and had also been employed in building government breakwaters having only recently patented a valuable dumping scow. No cause is known for the act. A widow and one daughter survive him.
