Exempt Ship Service Push Hailed In New York

New York April 23 The United States Shipping Board announces a nationwide drive to recruit officers and men for the American merchant marine. Henry Howard, director of the board's recruiting service, says draft exemption boards will grant exemptions to mariners and volunteers for the Shipping Board training vessels, under a recent government ruling. Service on a merchant ship in the present emergency replaces military service and is as important as trench warfare.
