Lawrence J. Killian a leading city liquor dealer suffered a severe knife wound to the right side of his face while riding a Federal Street streetcar. He was taken to Grace Hospital where eight stitches were needed to close the gash, and his life was described as in danger.
Joseph Di Steffano, 36, was chased through city streets and arrested at Court Square police station on a charge of assault with intent to kill after slashing a man on Atlantic Avenue near South station. The victim, Mr. Killian, owner of a barber shop, identified the assailant who fled, leaving a knife in the gutter. Di Steffano, who ran a barber shop, was previously ordered to remove an overhanging sign last week.
Dr. Peter M. Fisher pulled two children from a fire at 132 Bryant Street in Malden this afternoon and was overcome by smoke. Firefighters carried him out in time to save his life.
Dr Fisher entered the Miller family upper apartment after smelling smoke and found Harry Miller 18 months and Joseph Miller 4 years unconscious on the floor. He carried them to the street where they revived while he suffered smoke effects and firemen rescued him from the blaze, which started in a second floor closet. The fire caused roof damage and about 1000 dollars in losses.
A letter mailed from Abbeyville Georgia addressed only to Sky of Tufts U S A was delivered to Irving Tolles a Tufts College junior. The Abbeyville postmaster sent it to Medford Mass where Tolles' nickname Sky is known. Tolles confirmed the missive was intended for him.
Mrs. Jesse J. Livermore sister of Chester S. Jordan and wife of a New York cotton speculator is expected in East Cambridge court for the continuation of Jordan's wife murder trial. Eleven witnesses were placed on the stand as District Attorney Higgins pressed toward a quick government case. Police and a stenographer described the confession and the gruesome transcript notes.
Dustin Farnum detailed an auto ride with Mrs. Howard Gould and a late night hotel visit in Lynchburg Virginia. The deposition before Louis C. Ehle covered a 1906 September night and a St Regis return mishap with a German wagon incident.
Colonel Roosevelt plans his first African game hunt tomorrow in Mombasa, with a week on the Kapiti plains before Nairobi and Sir Alfred Pease's ranch. He rode on the engine cowcatcher at Kapiti station, waving to a crowded sendoff with an escort of honor.

Washington April 22 Senator Aldrich spoke for a 15 percent duty on hides under the Dingley law saying the finance committee would likely offer the same rate as a substitute for the free hides provision in the tariff bill. Senator Dolliver argued free hides would aid shoe manufacturers while harming farmers. He questioned Western farmers' ability to counter the beef trust compared with New England shoe interests.
Senator Gallinger objected to Dolliver’s critique of New Englanders while Dolliver praised the protective tariff system. Senators Nelson of Minnesota and Dolliver of Iowa clashed with the Senate finance committee over the tariff bill, with Nelson arguing wool, cotton and glass duties are too high and woolen mills would suffer under Wilson tariff rates.
