Two City Hospital orderlies Hayward C. Mott and Hugh W. Rice, under training as nurses, volunteered for a scarlet fever germ inoculation at City Hospital. Dr. Frank B. Mallory of Harvard Medical School performed the injections. The aim is to study the disease by introducing the suspected bacilli into their veins.

Nurse Miss Parks Dies After Boston Visit

Miss Parks a year and a half trainee nurse at Dr. Kings hospital left Portland Wednesday for Boston to reconcile with a former fiancé intern. She reportedly met rejection in Boston and attempted suicide while returning to Portland. She was taken from the boat and rushed to Maine General Hospital after physicians were summoned.

Insane Soldier Kills Nine in Vienna Suburb Rampage

Leopold Fichtner, a sandstrum infantryman, went insane at a police post and opened fire on a house and nearby street crowd in a Vienna suburb, killing nine and wounding many. An Amsterdam despatch to the Exchange Telegraph Company reports the incident.

Henry J. Doucette 25 of Melrose died last evening in a yard accident at the Winchester Rock & Brick Company. He was a book keeper and was helping weigh a loaded freight car when his foot wedged between the rails as the car moved. He cried out briefly before the deadly mass passed over him.
