Harvard Unitarian Church to Close and Sell After Sunday Service
After Sunday morning service, the Harvard Unitarian Church of Charlestown will close and its meeting house and Boylston Chapel will be sold. The parish committee is authorized to seek a court decree to authorize the sale and divide proceeds. The church has dwindled due to deaths and removals and elevated train noise. The choir will decide future services, and a consolidation with the Second Unitarian Society in Brookline was rejected. The Brookline society allegedly seeks Harvard assets to buy nearby land. Pastor Rev. Carlos Do Carpenter, serving 12 years, will receive a $10,000 testimonial from the congregation.
