Woman's Body Found in Merrimac River in Lowell

Unidentified woman about 35 years old, 5 feet 4 inches tall, 175 pounds, dressed in a dark outfit, found in the Merrimac river at East Merrimac Street. Police suspect death by her own action, aided by bruises on her back. Autopsy to determine cause of death planned. relatives not yet located. Authorities seek identification from Nashua and river towns along the waterway.

Indian Statue for Robbins Memorial at Arlington Town Hall

A large bronze statue and fountain titled The Hunter by Cyrus E. Dallin will stand between Arlington’s Town Hall and public library on a hill slope in front of the High School. The work memorializes late donor Winfield Robbins, funded by his sisters. The sculpture shows an Indian returning from a hunt, kneeling to drink from a stream while holding bow and arrows, with a wild goose nearby. Death by rooster scrap noted for 30 years

John C. Sparks of Chapman Kansas died at 84 from blood poisoning that began with a rooster scrap about 30 years earlier. The wound festooned into cancer, leading to his death in Chapman.

Beef exports fall sharply amid cattle decline

United States cattle and fresh beef exports drop sharply from 1907 levels. In the first nine months of the current fiscal year only 56,479,439 pounds of beef and 13,598 pounds of cattle were sent abroad versus 200,069,790 pounds and 807,726 in 1907. Population up 11 percent, cattle down 30 percent. Also 10 year old Thomas Kelley of Woburn is reported in critical condition after being run over by a milk wagon near Choate Memorial Hospital.
