April 19 Dedham police investigators Donley and Barrett probe a suspected poisoning of families tied to Henry Buzzell John ONeil and others living near Washington Street and Federal Hill. A sample taken from the local well smells strongly of kerosene and contains an unknown white substance believed to be poison.
New Orleans April 19 Advices show Foster carrying the state by roughly 10000 votes. Republicans win about six parishes including Concordia, while McEnery secures second place in total votes. McEnery mayoral candidate John Fitzpatrick wins by four to five thousand in the city amid a quiet, scratching heavy election.
A violent attack occurred on Washington street near Olive place at 10:30 last night as well dressed youths were assaulted by a crowd from a barroom. The targeted man was beaten with blood streaming from his face and chased into the street, nearly run over by a passing horse car, his hat crushed. No passersby aided him before he fled.
Martin Flaherty aged 25 was arrested by Patrolman Berry of Division 4 for assault and battery on Patrolman McCaffery of Station 6 in Green s alley South Baston Monday night. Berry confronted Flaherty on Winter street recognized him began to arrest him. Flaherty fled to the Common the officer fired two shots before Flaherty halted and submitted to arrest. Ausany April 19 The committee report on the Reading coal combine in New York State shows three-fourths of anthracite carrying trade may be controlled by the Philadelphia Reading Company. It calls the combination contrary to public policy injurious to public welfare and places coal consumers at the mercy of the Reading corporation. The panel prescribes no new laws but allows executive legal action if needed.
Faux River April 19 A strike at Osborne Mill No 1 sees 29 weavers on Bedford cards quit over pay. They allege 35 cents elsewhere while 24 cents per cut is paid here. Two knob sticks started work prompting 25 more to quit. A committee met Superintendent Walters who agreed to discharge the knobsticks and 30 weavers will return tomorrow. Walters refused concessions on the Bedford pay rate.
Explosion on Harrison Street in Baltimore damages No. 177% and seven neighboring houses. No injuries reported. Owner Mrs. Wink suspects unknown antagonists targeting her property.
