Typhus fever aboard the La Bourgogne prompts landing of 144 cabin passengers at Hoffman Island New York. The 798 steerage travelers remain quarantined for about twenty days while authorities assess exposure and safety. The case concerns a young Assyrian passenger named Jacob Conri.
