DAR Convention Debates McLean Candidacy and Memorial Hall
Washington April 18 A lively debate in the annual convention of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution focused on statements by a national officer about Mrs McLean. Mrs Amos G Draper demanded Mrs Mc Lean be allowed to speak on her stance toward the memorial hall project. The chair refused clarifying campaign speeches are not a privilege. Mrs McLean urged proceeding with business as usual. Later, Donald McLean supporters complained that neither she nor her New York City Chapter allies had been represented on the Continental Hall committee for seven years. President General Fairbanks responded she appoints committee members from those with shown stake in the building project, a statement the McLean faction disputed as lacking opportunity to demonstrate interest.
