Dedham Streetcar Crash Injures Several and Fire Rages
At 8 o clock a Old Colony street railway car jumped the High street track near Merchant Dye Works, crashing into a telegraph pole and injuring three passengers. Mrs Lawrence Keenan suffered severe contusions a broken rib and was hysterical. Mrs David Sullivan and Conductor E J Schofield also sustained injuries. Motorman James W Quinn escaped with minor injuries. A blaze then broke out in the Ordway block Essex street causing smoke filled floors and dramatic rescues including a ladder descent of a child from the fourth floor to safety. Firefighters saved occupants and damaged shops include Caswell optics Traveler Shoe Company Collins Shoe Company and Globe Clothing Company. The four story brick block owned by Charles W Howard carried $15000 insurance.
