Literary Life and Correspondence of the Countess of Blessington
Boston short notices review the two volume set published by Harpers. Ticknor Fields sells in Boston and the critic denounces Madden as a toady while praising the editor for gathering letters and biographical sketches. Readers are treated to humorous epistles from Gell, Sue, Delavigne, Guicciola, Landon, Dickens, Bulwer, Galt and many others. The piece remarks on the volume’s grand moral and its entertaining contents.

Virginia Adjutant Leads 300 Virginians in 1813 Battle
A National Intelligencer correspondent notes a near parallel to Bala klava in the War of 1812. At Little England Farm in Elizabeth county Virginia on June 25 1813 Adjutant Robert Anderson of the 68th led 300 Virginia volunteers against over 3000 British regulars under Gen Sir Sydney Beckwith and Admiral Sir George Cockburn. The Virginians killed or wounded 64 with 19 Americans lost, then retreated 24 miles to Yorktown as outflanking forces closed in.

A dense list of 19th century commodity dealings notes steady ham sales at firm prices, scarce prime butter and cheese, and brisk tobacco, spices, and seed sales. Prices are given for Liver pool bags, Cadiz salt, rough tallow, tea demand, and wool market activity, with multiple lots, bins, and freight terms.
