Boston Post reports a deadly train wreck near New Haven in which eight people died. The express train rear-ended a local, causing the wooden car to crumble, catching fire. Officials say warning signals were disregarded and several Greater Boston residents were aboard the two trains.
In Bradford a westbound Gilt Edge express rear collided with a stopped local train. At least seven killed in the rear coach, with one later dying of injuries. Thirty five injured. 100 men searched wreckage for more bodies as investigators review the collision and engineer Mansfield was taken into custody.
American Consul Letcher in Chihuahua City wires AP that nothing heard here about reports of Francisco Villa’s body being found, replying to the telegram from El Paso. No verification available as of April 17.
Alfred M. Davis of 36 Forrest Street Winthrop is injured in the incident. Davis is the New England agent for W A DePew's Encyclopedia with an office at 248 Boylston Street Boston. He is married with a wife and two daughters.
