Lynn April 17. Ollie Russell identified as the mysterious woman Charles L Tucker has been writing to from Cambridge jail awaiting trial for the murder of Mabel Page at Weston on March 31. Continued on Page 2 Fifth Column.
Patrolman Charles E. Byrnes faced a 200 person mob while arresting Simon Maloney in Somerville near Dimock field. Byrnes drew his revolver after being blocked from moving. Maloney and accomplices were detained and later arrested for drunkenness. The incident traces to a Cambridge hall meeting and a Dimock field confrontation.
Frank H. McCarthy, former AFL organizer and ex president of the Boston Cigarmakers Union, was re elected by a complimentary majority as president of the Boston Central Labor Union the body of over 1000 delegates and 154 affiliated unions. The session also reelected Henry Abrahams Philip H. Sweet and John J. Fenton to key posts with other officers chosen, and a committee was set to prepare a resolution of appreciation for retiring treasurer P Henry Shaughnessy.
Worcester April 17 Governor John L Bates spoke at the 40th anniversary celebration of the Y M C A before about 2200 people when he briefly lost his voice for two minutes. He recovered and praised state efforts in education libraries parks and recreation. He noted hospitals and asylums serving the sick injured and demented and urged fewer needs for asylums.
Tokyo reports Japanese pride in Vice-Admiral Togo for a new countermining strategy at Port Arthur. Japanese destroyers laid counter-mines under poor visibility to lure Russian ships onto a minefield, while Togo’s battleships attacked from 30 miles out, forcing a retreat that wrecked the Pavlovsk and disabled the Pobieda.

In Hingham on April 17 two Italian brothers, Peter and Joseph Brisconi, were stabbed by Dominic and Gregori Rossi during a long running feud. The Brisconis, employed by contractor J. J. Moore at a local pumping station project, were seriously injured at their boarding house on Cedar Street. the Rossi brothers fled. The dispute stems from a past incident in Italy and involved accusations of a previous shooting.
