Telephone bill delayed as House debates Section 6

Health Commissioner Cox A Long Civil War Veteran

Health Commissioner Cox born in Ireland rose to public service after arriving in the United States at age 14. He served in Company G Thirty-First South Border Regiment fighting in the Civil War and Wilderness and Petersburg campaigns, wounded near the right arm, captured at Sailboat after nine days he was exchanged. He later served in Weldon and was commended for bravery. Cox circulated in Democratic politics for years, serving on city committees and council in 1876 and 1877, earning nominations and fighting in elections with Aney and Fields.
