Clergyman Emory Haynes Chosen for Tremont Temple Boston

Sketch from 1881 notes that Rev Emory J Haynes of Brooklyn has a unanimous call to Tremont temple Boston with a 5000 salary. Born Cabot Vermont February 6 1846 his line of Methodist Episcopal ministers included his father and grandfather. He studied at Wesleyan University and pastored in Norwich Fall River and Brooklyn before joining Baptists in 1877. He led Washington Avenue Church Brooklyn and drew many to worship. He is described as an able eloquent preacher with vivid illustrations and aims to promote spiritual welfare. He authored Are These Things So gems from his sermons.
