Disastrous forest fire devastates Danville area
A special to the Sun reports a forest fire from Patrick Springs to Catz depot on the Danville & New River railroad, five to ten miles long and three to six wide, started Friday and stopped Sunday night after a heavy rain. Over 100 families homeless, 60 cattle, 10 horses, 200 hogs lost, about 100 dwellings destroyed. Nearby fires in Foxboro and other towns caused property damage and insured losses.

Family of C H Perkins Endures Thunderbolt Blaze
In Findlay Ohio on April 15 the Jackson township household of C H Perkins faced a severe thunderstorm. A lightning strike ripped the tin roof and cornice, sent a bolt through a pipe to the basement, scattering washstands and furniture, injuring the servant girl and stunning Mr Perkins. A hired man was thrown from a wagon as horses ran wild, and the vehicle and team were damaged. The bolt set the house alight but rain quenched the flames before serious loss. Mrs Perkins and a baby were unharmed.
