Boston Corn Exchange Opens To Boost Flour Trade

The Boston Corn Exchange has surpassed expectations by centralizing the flour and grain business in a new granite block at Commercial street and City wharf. The rooms offer hourly access, fixed minimum lot sizes, labeled sample boxes, and tables for dealers to compare prices, promising efficiency, social contact, and a uniform pricing standard for the trade.

Paper from sawdust to be manufactured in New York

The New York Sun reports a company will form in the city to manufacture paper from sawdust and shavings. Experiments show remarkably beautiful paper can be produced, with sawdust costing about $5 per ton. The process uses acids to pulp the sawdust and yields turpentine, while acid is regenerated with minor loss. Burke’s prospects for the senatorship are waning as the Old Guard weakens and the Whig Free Soil coalition gains influence.
