The Chicago Market Opens Soft on Wheat Decline
Wheat opened easy with selling pressure from bulls and bears, slipping about 5 cents as heavy outside buying later lifted some grades. Cables were firm on all grades, corn remained active with strong cash demand, and hogs showed high receipts with varied prices. Market notes cite oversold wheat, large trading volume, and anticipated further shifts as futures move through April to August.

Not a hospital Exaggerated reports of men injured on the Q
A Chicago Daily News driven report says Burlington roundhouse injuries were handled on site rather than at hospitals. It describes two grievous accidents plus several lesser injuries among new crews, with officials denying a hospital status and noting doctors at St Luke's. A bystander attempt to wreck a train led to a $2500 bond for a suspected instigator, while strike committees and Canadian railway leaders discussed the dispute.

Governor Hill Denies Link Between Donations and Aqueduct Bill
Axpany April 11. Governor Hill rebutted a New York morning paper claim that Democratic State committee contributions in 1885 influenced aqueduct legislation. He said the story was a fabrication by a political ring he had ousted. He admitted signing notes of 5000 and 10000 to aid the party, later repaid by private subscriptions. John O'Brien led the committee. his partner Clark was a Republican. The next year’s aqueduct bill passed by Republicans. Hill merely signed it.
