Floods Threaten Several States As Rivers Rise
On April 12 the Mississippi neared danger level on the northwest St Paul flats with water rising two feet between 2 and 8 am. By 8 am many families, mainly foreigners and very poor, moved out as water stood two to three feet in houses and reached thirteen feet at the gauge. Water rose further this afternoon at about three quarters of an inch per hour. Danger also loomed at Da kota avenues west flats and Belle street, while upstream banks overflowed. Reports from Wisconsin and Ontario note ice gorges, flooded Frenchtown in Oconto, and rising rivers breach dykes threatening Breckenridge and Conley’s Point in Ohio.
