In Vienna on April 10 a well dressed youth tried to stab Cardinal Vaszary and his secretary. The secretary was wounded. the attacker was arrested and provided no motive. The act appears linked to Hungary's civil marriage and mixed marriage baptism dispute, with Vaszary seen as church faction leader.
New York April 10 The jury of the Society of American Artists selected Edmund C Tarbell of Boston for purchase by the Shaw fund. His painting The Bath features a nude female figure and is praised for the handling of flesh tints. The price paid is 1500 dollars and the selection is considered an honor.
