The Post invites readers to estimate how long the eight day World’s Fair clock will run after being started May 1 1893 at noon Chicago time. Two round trips to Chicago with ten days hotel stay await the two closest answers submitted via the Post coupon.
About six hundred boiler makers in Boston and vicinity plan a nine hour day without extra pay, threatening a strike. Local Union 10 reports strong organization and a meeting in Caledonian Hall with R McDonald and David M Chaisson sent to notify manufacturers. A Boston Manufacturers Association reply cites competitive pressures and opposition to concessions, noting cross state and regional competition.
Early yesterday morning a gas leak at 36 Fleet Street fatally injured Otto Anderson 21 and Oscar Swenson 24 while leaving Sophia Moberg 42 in critical condition. All three are Swedes, employed at the saloon owned by Charles Williams. Moberg was a cook.
Rioters clash with police and dragoons as steamships Montebello and Romeo move crews from the Hull docks. Officers and sailors are battered, several injured, while a large striker meeting later pledges unity and possible general strike. Grimsby dockers refuse freight for Hull ships.
Henry M. Stanley writes to the Peace Association alleging that 1892 trade growth at German run African ports is fueled by German merchants importing small arms and ammunition. The British steamer Thames from Yarmouth caught fire in the midstream harbor at St. Johns N F last night. Fire started in the engine room and spread. no boats or help could reach the vessel as the harbor was frozen. The crew fought flames for four hours. the ship was gutted amidships with damaged engines and a burned deck. No cargo aboard. Thames is a 1064 ton screw steamer owned by William Ross & Co of London.
Washington April 9 The immigration act of March 3 faces Senate inquiry led by Mr Chandler who argues that separately verified manifests are not being required. Correspondence from Commissioner Weber and Treasury official Spaulding suggests practical relaxations for oath attachments. Chandler warns new Treasury regulations could hinder law aims and urges exact enforcement. The issue is referred to the immigration committee.
The Post reports Harry Kiniston vanished after visiting a theatre in Boston on March 18. He and a friend split near Pitts street resort. the companion, Charles Lake, gave two conflicting accounts and police have corroborated parts of his statements. Kiniston's father pleads for answers, denying abuse or threats at home.
It will be cloudy most of the day with variable winds. Forecast for Monday from Washington notes Maine New Hampshire and Vermont expect generally fair skies with variable winds and cooling. Massachusetts Rhode Island and Connecticut see fair weather turning cloudy with threats of rain in the afternoon and easing to cooler easterly winds in Massachusetts.
In Boston at 11 a m Monday the second hearing before Judges Lowell Bennett and Charles Clifford will determine the price Quincy must pay for the Quincy Water Company property and franchise. City Solicitor J W McAnarney Rh M Morseana J J Cotter represent Quincy with I P Golding ex Governor Robinson and Judge James T H Flint for the water company. The company president and treasurer have testified and Superintendent F E Hall will be the first witness.
Hartworp April 9 David Rochford quarryman at East Longmeadow Mass was killed instantly while trying to board a moving New England train near Walnut street crossing. His brother George a New England brakeman riding in Springfield escaped unharmed. David 20 left a wife and three children.
A report from Poinapenruis dated April 9 states Luknes & Co, lumber dealers, were assigned yesterday. The firm faces about 170000 in liabilities, though this will be materially reduced. Nominal assets exceed sixty percent of liabilities.

During the heavy win storm last night a fire started north of town sweeping everything in its path. Mrs. C. Ogiers was burned to death. Her sons tried to rescue her and were badly burned but will recover. A large amount of farm property was destroyed.
The Santa Maria docked in Havana today after a voyage from Porto Rico, greeted by cheering crowds and a celebratory reception.
An eruption near Osawaromuri Kansas damaged the John Brown monument erected in 1863 by Horace Greeley supporters. A meteorite fragment broke the statue s left arm and pierced the dome nave and crypt area before stopping at bedrock. Experts identify the fragment as pelium a metal known only in theory.
May John Few a Chinese laundry owner on North street went berserk on Essex street at 4 30 PM. He bowed before a chorus girl poster, prayed in Chinese and pigeon English, then danced a vigorous mock skirt dance before a gathered crowd. Police took him to the station for sanity examination after previous similar episodes.
Augustus C. Traeger of New Haven faced a prolonged dispute after his son's body died aboard the King Wilhelm II of the North German Lloyd line. Passengers reported embalming and return arrangements, leading to payments by D. M. Welch and revelations of an autopsy. The line now denies liability, claiming Welch acted privately. Dr. Feldman has left the ship. Traeger's counsel says further action may follow.

A balloon carrying three passengers left Brussels at midnight and was led by aeronaut M Toult. Over Etaples he fell from the vessel while the other two passengers continued the voyage.
A strong quake struck Servia with Veliki Popoviteh reduced to ruins and several residents killed. Reports say deaths occurred in other villages as houses collapsed across the kingdom.
Edith Day returns to Portland after a 10,000 mile U S and Mexico trip in 17 days and 14 hours. Doolittle departed Chicago heading opposite. Bess Mitchell reaches Curacao after a three week country tour arriving at 4 50 this afternoon.
In South Quincy on April 9 Mrs. William Riskey and Mrs. John Riskey were injured when a two wheel gig overturned after the horse ran away. Mrs. Riskey broke her shoulder and Mrs. Riskey suffered a severe scalp wound. medical aid was summoned.
Newton, April 9 The Moran home on School Street is reunited as Michael Moran, who vanished last week and was suspected of being murdered, returns home. He says a New York business trip kept him away.
The Viking ship to be shown at Worlad's lair sailed from Curistranta April 9 with an immense crowd cheering. Salutes fired from the harbor batteries were answered by land guns. She will cruise the coast for public viewing and depart for the United States in early May.
United States Marshal Matthieson learned that White-faced Norse, Sioux chief who aided Two Strike in the Humphrey raid that left four cowboys dead, died Friday at a White River camp. He shot himself after a bullet wound worsened, with mortification setting in the leg.
