A gang rifled safes at the Quincy Theatre and Coy Forwarding Agency in Quincy before dawn. They were routed from the Alhambra Theatre by police fire. Detectives secured numerous fingerprints during the investigation.

Washington April 9 Congressmen Tinkham of Boston and Gallivan of Boston led a minority dissent in the House report on the small navy bill. Tinkham headed the list of dissenters who made their opposition public tonight. The Republican and Democratic members voiced their disapproval of the measure.
The minority argues against the majority plan citing a hypothetical treaty that would weaken the United States to the level of Britain or Japan. They call for 80,000 enlisted personnel and 6,000 apprentices, warn of yard shutdowns, and oppose a 5 5 3 ratio as a dangerous example of armament limitation.

Miles O Flaherty 28 of 348 East Eighth Street South Boston an outpatient at Parker Hill Hospital was rescued from drowning yesterday afternoon after fainting and falling into a pool at Douglas Street and the Strandway South Boston Patrolman Barney of the Athene street station saved him and an ambulance took him home where he was reported slightly immersed and in fair condition
Samuel Augustino 46 of Arlington fell into a track pit at Hay Market square and rolled beneath a waiting surface car. George Mason 34 of city plunged his fist through the motorman’s window to stop the car and pull Augustino free. Both men were treated at the Hay Market Square Relief Station for injuries.

In Kattowitz, April 9, Associated Press report says more than 2 French soldiers were killed and a dozen wounded when a spade uncovered a hidden mine triggering a detonating mechanism. The blast occurred in a cemetery between Gleiwicz and Sessnitna, under a store of arms, creating a crater 30 feet wide and 12 feet deep.
In Springfield on April 9 Mrs Ida Viola Remington age 28 shot her three year old son Ernst through the head likely fatally wounding him and then shot herself through the temple dying instantly in the West Side home. The boy was rushed to a hospital and not expected to live.

Solomon Brittain aged 75 of 71 Fourth Street Chelsea leaped from a three story building roof to the sidewalk yesterday afternoon, killing himself instantly during a temporary spell of insanity.
Chelsea police responding to a welfare call found a man on the Brittain home roof. He leaped to the curb, dying almost instantly as Patrolman Batten and Patrolman Flynn arrived within seconds of the fall. Mrs. Rebecca Brittain had summoned officers fearing he would take his life.
