Sound Signals at Sea Experiments by British Experts

British researchers report that calm seas favor low sound rates, while rough seas and opposite wind directions flip this. Signal reach varies by region and distance. fading can occur in some zones while others hear it clearly. In fogs, silence on the listening vessel helps, even stopping engines. Sound remains an auxiliary warning only.
