Hotels remained busy with patrons and sandwiches yesterday despite a crackdown on the so called sandwich drink. Police and inspectors studied spotters while proprietors kept prices up on Sunday beer in two hotels Hawthorne and Haywood as May licensing looms and Roxbury sought renewal.

Flood alarms as Merrimac nears flood peak in Haverhill

From the Pemwasset Valley to the Merrimac influence the river threatens to burst banks with historic volume. Police activated flood alarms as River Street neared water highs and businesses moved goods to protect against backflow. Reports say rainfall reached 2.72 inches. Manchester and Concord saw rising waters with bodies sighted in the river but not recovered below Lowell.

Schooner Hyena Wrecked at Gloucester Traps Crew

A southeast storm wrecked the Calais schooner Hyena off Gloucester. Two crew escaped to shore. captain R B Dix and steward Fuller were lost. Hyena carried 206 tons of coal from Perth Amboy to Calais. wreck occurred around 3 a.m. near High Popples.

Groux's Island residents evacuated by boat as the island floods, with water at the Kelley Falls electric station threatening destruction. April 7 Clinton reports massive flood damage as the Moerropo dam operators remove head-house planks and the 700 foot flume leaks ten feet of water. A 200 foot Metropolitan Water Board embankment and another on Boylston street were washed away, causing thousands in losses and mill yard flooding.

Storti’s new counsel led by the Hon. William M. Stockbridge and Clarence W. Rowley with Dr. Sanzososo engaged all day on the condemned man’s case. They would not speak for publication, but new evidence was recorded yesterday and will be presented to Governor Crane today. Saturday’s evidence was thought to merit a new trial, and yesterday’s material was stronger.
