Christina Kidston the nurse accused of poisoning Mrs. Cynthia Perkins recounts how a coffee mixture may have been sabotaged. She describes her illness after drinking coffee and asserts her innocence while detailing the events at Mrs. Perkins residence. The case cites cereal coffee found spilled in a coal hod and questions who planted it.
Attorneys for Edward Brunet of 34 Taber Street protest a Roxbury Gazette report claiming Brunet’s son confessed to a robbery. The letter asserts the named youth is from another family and not employed at the bakery, urging correction to protect Brunet’s reputation.
James Sheehan aged 24 of 1870 Washington Street was responsible for arresting Michael J. Barrett on larceny charges. He later refused to appear at Barrett’s arraignment and was adjured in contempt of court, then arrested by Patrolman West of Division 5.
A dynamite blast at Pigeon Cove Gloucester this afternoon killed one Italian and seriously injured another along with the foreman of the blasting crew.
Adoniram J. Taylor a wealthy Somerville real estate owner died at Homeopathic Hospital Boston yesterday morning at age 87. He was a native of Wilmot New Hampshire and for 20 years served as a director of the North End Institute for Savings Boston.
The Allied Printing Trades Council granted IE L. Grimes the right to use the council label and referred three other firms' label applications to a committee The council favored looking for the button on the newsboy and held a verdict in the matter
John H. Townsend of East Boston reported to police last night that his pocket was picked on a ferry car. He lost a pocketbook containing $28 and a check for $90.
Mrs. J. Kelleher of 56 First Avenue New York reports her baby is thriving and no longer thin as bronchial trouble is cured.
The Leader newspaper reports at midnight that Mayor Tom L. Johnson is reelected by 6000 to 8000 votes and that the entire Democratic ticket wins in Cleveland.
Complete returns from 228 precincts show Fleischmann 42 907 votes, Ingalls 96 287, Swing 3 784, Martin 845, total 73 813. Fleischmann wins by 16 620, with a Republican city ticket sweeping council and school boards. Bond Hill, Evanston, Hyde Park, Winton Place annexed to Cincinnati.
Returns from twenty precincts show Jones will carry Toledo by a 4500 plurality. In Columbus Robert H. Jeffry wins mayoralty over incumbent John N. Hirkle by about 1800. Dayton mayoral race favors Democrat Snyder by about 600 with strong turnout under new tenure code.
Warren and nearby cities vote April 6 with Republicans sweeping Warren O Mayor Sloan and the Republican ticket. Zanesville finds a Republican win. Findlay hints at Republican mayor and major offices. Canton reports W K Smith elected mayor and likely other GOP wins.
Michigan Republicans announced a statewide victory with the state ticket carrying a light, measured turnout. The slate includes Judge Frank A. Hooker for the Supreme Court and Peter White with Loyal E. Knappan as regents, amid broad but uneven results across cities like Sault Ste. Marie and Jackson.
A daytime blaze on Union street caused panic among workers and residents. Injured include Joseph Carter storekeeper, Robert GrimP janitor, and Eliza Hallowell at their homes. The Wh in the basement storeroom of 16 Union street housed the Plimpton Hervey firm. The Walters family was driven from their Jamaica Plain home as flames spread. The Buffalo Commercial reports Arthur L. Pennell, killed in a March 10 auto crash, as a defaulter of $150,000 to $200,000. It says he acted as financial agent for Eastern estates, moved funds for investment, and used life policy proceeds to cover losses. The probe centers on two life policies and a $25,000 bequest to Mrs. Burdick.
Timothy McAuley 46 of South Braintree was stabbed after a mugging near Beach and Albany streets. He lost consciousness at the doorway to Emergency Hospital and later learned his assailants stole $25 before fleeing toward Atlantic avenue. He received head stitches from Dr Ledwell and could not identify the attackers.
The Boston area is set for a warmer spell with cloudy skies and a brisk south wind. Tuesday brings above normal temperatures, followed by a Wednesday with fair conditions and lighter winds.
The Pennell inquest may reveal a final defence by Pennell regarding the Burdick case. He claimed Burdick died at midnight by an unknown woman and denied involvement. His first statement includes relations with Mrs. Burdick and was finished the day before his death, with a second statement missing.
