Jacob Sharp dies in West Twenty third street home and his funeral will be private. The ceremony will be led by Rev Dr Amitage at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church with burial in Greenwood. The cedar casket is covered with broadcloth and an inner copper shell. James Stevens, son in law from Rome, and other relatives have gathered.
In Chicago April 6 Jeffry of Illinois Central met with Burlington officials and engineers and firemen leaders pressing arbitration. Burlington chairman Hoge said no surrender and warned against indiscriminate rehiring, while reports said a deal with Knights of Labor Powderly could trigger wide strikes if orders arise.
A massive Amesbury blaze destroyed multiple carriage industry buildings on Carriage hill, starting at A Babcock & Co. at 8 40 pm. Fire spread through wooden structures along Carriage avenue, endangering nearby homes. By midnight most major factories were ruined, with losses estimated around 850000 and insurance adjustments underway.

In New York on April 6 confrontations over the Richmond Terminal Company intensified as Emanuel Lehman resigned from the board to back the opposition. Terminal directors countered that rivals own rail lines in the South seek to subjugate the firm, citing alleged bond amendments favoring East Tennessee Virginia and Georgia. They pledged to convene a stockholders meeting if requested.
