Navy board settles on 12 inch main guns for new battleships
The Navy General Board rules that new battleships will mount 12 12 inch guns as the main battery instead of 10 14 inch guns. A 14 inch type gun is being tested at Indian Head and may still be used for coast defenses. The Panama Canal plan contemplated 16 inch guns, but officers deem 16 inch impractical.
