Steamer Chilkhat Wreck Near Eureka Fatal Bar Collision

The Chilkhat struck a bar near Eureka California and capsized with eleven drowned. Of fourteen crew and six passengers aboard eleven perished, two passengers Howard Smith and Mr Moselick survived. Rescuers from Eureka and nearby steamers aided, listing saved crew members and passengers.

Judges Target Trusts In Kentucky Distillery Reorg Case

In Frankfort on April 4 Judge Cantrill directed the grand jury to indict all trusts operating in the district. He aimed to strike the whiskey combination formed by the Kentucky Distillery and Warehouse Company which had acquired most Kentucky distilleries, including many nearby.

Post Bill Wins First Encounter With Telephone Interests

The House rejected the Mercantile Committee’s adverse report on the Post telephone bill by 7 to 37, placing the measure on the regular calendar for later action. Rebels Massing North of Calumpit Near Malolos

Rebel forces concentrate north of Calumpit about five miles northwest of Malolos with heavy fighting expected near SantoMernando where Aguinaldo is believed to be. Montana Regiment reports one killed and three wounded, twenty five prostrations from heat after yesterday’s skirmish near Malolos.
