Fire Chief Forces Crossing Break At Boston & Maine Gate

Wakefield April 4 Chief Engineer Levi Flanders ordered the passage of a fire apparatus through the Albion street gates at the Boston & Maine crossing after gateman Frank Kelley refused. Gates splintered as Hose No. 1 and the Lucius Beebe crossed. trains were approaching outs. Station agent E A Fisher defended Kelley citing the Everett case. The incident sparks debate over right of way and who pays for repairs.

Gas Accident Leaves James Murphy Unconscious in Lodging House

James Murphy a 35 year old bricklayer was found unconscious in a fifth floor room at 107 Green Street after the gas cock was left wide open. He was moved to Massachusetts Hospital but later discharged. The ancient gas fixtures and late night drunkenness are noted as possible causes.
