Funeral of Daniel H. Quinn Globe photographer

Funeral services for Daniel H. Quinn staff photographer of the Boston Globe were held at St Margaret s Church Dorchester with high mass of requiem. The body was borne from 37 Buttonwood Street to the church by Globe art department staff. Pallbearers included E E Bond Leonard Small J A Jones J A Moley W W Somers Gus Williams G F Radway J H Williams. Interment followed at New Calvary Cemetery. Floral tributes came from the Globe editorial and art departments the Boston Post Mrs Quinn and others.

Life Saving Captain Found Dead in Bed on Long Island

John T. Coxsee, captain of the Fire Island life saving station, was found dead in bed from gas asphyxiation. He was seventy, one of the oldest in the service, and coroner will determine if the death was accidental.

Water town slayings yield five guilty pleas in court

Five Water Town Italians pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the fatal Hood Rubber dispute on November 17. Judge Chase sentenced Vincenzo Ristagno Tomasso Fittante and Giabrillo Lepere to 6 to 10 years in Charlestown State prison. Luigi Idgaro and Francesco Faldo received one year at the East Cambridge House of Correction.

Catholic University Plans $1 Million in New Buildings

In Washington on April 3 rector Thomas J. Shahan announced plans to invest more than $1,000,000 in campus buildings. Three new facilities are planned two laboratories and a 1000-seat dining hall to be started immediately and ready before the next academic year. The chemical lab will cost $300,000 and is described as one of the largest of its kind in the United States. The second laboratory will serve physics and mechanical engineering students.

Sword duel leaves two wounded in Paris incident

In Paris on April 3, Georges Berthoulat managing director of La Liberte and Deputy Pascal Ceccaldi fought a fierce sword duel. Berthoulat received four thrusts to the right breast while Ceccaldi was wounded once in the right shoulder. Seconds intervened to end the combat. Surgeons say injuries unlikely to be fatal.

Back Bay Car Lines Shifted To Temporary Route

Boston Transit Commission orders inward-bound Boylston street cars to use temporary tracks from Boylston through Exeter Huntington Copley St James Arlington to Boylston to maintain service during subway construction. Outward-bound service remains unchanged. Temporary route connects Copley square to Arlington street via Columbus avenue Berkeley and Tremont streets.

Work started on Harvard library Widener project

Excavation for the $2,000,000 Widener Memorial Library in Harvard yard is complete. Foundations will be laid soon with Gore Hall removed and 35 000 cubic yards of earth to be moved. Two steam shovels, 600 cubic yards daily, speed progress. Cement foundation 297 by 210 yards, front facing college yard and Massachusetts Avenue, opening planned for commencement week 1914.

The steamer Millinocket bound from New York to Stockton Maine paused off Watch Hill to land two badly burned crewmen Carl Hansen first assistant engineer and Victor Swanson an oiler after a bunkroom fire onboard Four men slept through the blaze two escaped Engel Engstrom rescued the injured men Tug Solicitor sent them to hospital with Swanson possibly not recovering from burns
